What exactly is digital television?
Digital television is a big evolutionary step. Sometimes referred to as DTV – digital television allows the broadcast of higher quality images and sounds. In the past, it was often received through a cable or a dish, but nowadays by far the best way of picking up a digital signal is through a set top box, which decodes the digital signal.
Simply put, digital television is a substantial improvement from traditional forms of broadcasting. The signal is clearer and more detailed, allowing for high definition and enhanced picture and sound quality. The number of available channels has also increased – giving the viewer much more freedom in what they choose to watch.

TV and the Internet merge
More and more UK consumers are turning to the web in order to catch up on their favourite programmes. February saw the launch of a new online service, SeeSaw, which aims to be a one stop shop for catching up on commercial online TV. They already have agreements with Channel 4 and Five as well as several other major British production companies to screen Video on Demand shows.
But peering at a PC monitor can’t beat the big screen experience, surely? According to the online PC review specialists at PC Site, more and more of us are simply connecting our laptops to our LCDs via the HDMI cable. It gets around the problem of having to hunch over an 11 inch screen and opens up a whole new world of TV on demand. There is simply no getting away from the fact that the way TV is delivered in the UK is changing forever.
